English Curriculum



The ethos of the Wythenshawe Campus is to provide all students with the skills required to access and enjoy Literature. To ensure all students are confident in writing and gain ability to use speaking and listening skills effectively in all walks of life.

The key aims of the English at Wythenshawe Campus are to provide a complex programme of study (in line with the national curriculum) that will be differentiated effectively to suit the need of each and every student at Wythenshawe Campus. With a key focus on Literacy for all students will acquire comprehensive skills in reading, writing and speaking and listening, which will provide the opportunity to make excellent progress and succeed at GCSE level.

English provides all students with an interesting and engaging programme of study. Teaching methods are exciting and innovative. Literacy is brought to life with inspiring and stimulating schemes of work.

Each student is provided with engaging and differentiated work that is be delivered by a variety of motivational and enthusiastic teaching methods. Teaching focuses on three main areas of study including reading, writing and speaking and listening skills.

Literacy underpins all elements of work within English as a subject and across the curriculum. Focusing on grammar, spelling, comprehension and punctuation. Intense intervention will be provided when necessary. It is essential that all students at Wythenshawe Campus have the ability and confidence to read coherently.
